It’s finally happening, folks. Tomorrow at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET, Nintendo will unveil a full-length Nintendo Direct that’s scheduled to span for 50 minutes. We haven’t seen a Nintendo Direct of this caliber since September 2019.

This announcement has already confirmed that information pertaining to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be unveiled during the Nintendo Direct. It’s extremely likely that the Fighters Pass Vol. 2’s fourth challenger will be revealed during the presentation.

Of course, this obviously means that the Smash community is speculating on who might be announced tomorrow. A lot of awesome possibilities have begun trending on Twitter as a result.

Masahiro Sakurai’s response to the announcement on Twitter has certainly added some fuel to the speculation. It’s possible that Sakurai could be hinting at what we’re in store for tomorrow.

While Twitter’s Google Translate feature can be a bit rough, the Japanese Hiragana “ほうほう” translates to “ho ho” in English, and this is really the important part of Sakurai’s Tweet as far as speculation is concerned.

This is reminiscent on Sakurai’s Tweet that proceeded the reveal that Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, Chrom, Dark Samus and King K. Rool were playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s base roster. “My eyes might appear a little red, but I’m just tired,” said Sakurai in the Tweet according to Source Gaming.

Looking back, it seems like the comment about “red eyes” might’ve been a clue towards either the Belmonts — Castlevania’s Bloody Tears theme — or King K. Rool — bulging, red eye. Or both.

So who could “ho ho” being a hint towards? One theory suggests that Dr. Eggman, archenemy of Sonic the Hedgehog, is to be our newly revealed character tomorrow.

Dr. Eggman is well known for laughing with “ho” in a maniacal way. A scene in Sonic Generations depicts this perfectly.

The last character that was made playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was Sephiroth, the One-Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7. If Dr. Eggman is really the next character, then it’d mean that we’d be getting two villains in a row.

Other characters that have been trending on Twitter include Dante from Devil May Cry, Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter, and Crash Bandicoot.
