“I’m not going out there”
With the Super Mario Bros. Movie speeding towards its launch on April 5th (or at some point in April or May, depending on where you live), the cast is currently out doing the rounds to promote the upcoming release.
During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show for NBC, actors Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Jack Black (Bowser) spoke at length about the movie and how they created the voices for their respective characters (we imagine Chris Pratt probably just spoke the words in his normal voice – heh).
In a rather amusing little skit, however, Jack Black was initially missing from the line-up. After a bit of questioning from the host, he was found backstage wearing a rather skin-tight Bowser costume complete with an inflatable spiky shell. Convinced to make a “special” entrance to the stage, he eventually (albeit resentfully) joined the rest of the cast on the couch.
What’s pretty hilarious about the whole thing, however, is that NBC decided to blur out Jack Black’s crotch during his big entrance, hiding “little Jack” from from the poor, innocent viewers back at home (though the oversight to do the same while he was backstage kind of ruins the illusion, in our eyes). It’s a fun, harmless little joke, and we’re totally here for it. We can’t wait to check out the movie when it launches!

Considering there are a bunch of actors pretending to be surprised and shocked, they’re playing pretty bad. Jack Black on the other side is pretty awesome.
Jack Black is killing it in the marketing for this movie. Probably the best casting choice for Bowser that we could have asked for

I wore that costume at my wedding! yes, bizarre I know but hear me out… in the evening a load of us changed into fancy dress to surprise my wife. It is certainly a very revealing costume believe me haha

I don’t have a great sense of American tastes, but I’m guessing The Kelly Clarkson Show doesn’t get that many viewers.
Jack Black, man! What a great casting decision right there! Dude just throws himself at the thing. I’m excited about most of them [Keegan Michael Key and Charlie Day are bound to be terrific as well]
Also: Fred Armisen – just antecipating those deadpan deliveries of Cranky Kong
Watch Nintendo ask him removed from any sequels because this doesn’t jive with their family friendly attitude.
Would’ve been nice if the other actors wore their respective costumes too since I think they would fit them pretty well, but oh well, Jack Black was great!

@Toads-Friend Chris was wearing something like we’ve never seen before..much like his unique a special voice he used for Mario…..

@gcunit, it’s just light daytime talk fluff on broadcast tv. It’s up against stuff like the “Drew Barrymore Show”, the “Tamaron Hall Show” & the “Jennifer Hudson Show”, so I can’t imagine it does particularly worse than those.
I only know this because I work as a receptionist & the lobby TV only gets in local channels.

@RR529 @gcunit Yeah, it feels like there’s a million of these daytime shows in our USA hosted by former A/B tier celebs, on what our UK NL folks would consider akin to a low tier BBC channel, just compete filler 😂
So I can’t imagine the cast were trying very hard to commit to the bit there, except for Jack Black 🤣

In other words, I unfortunately didn’t get to see it on TV but they did upload segments of the show on their YouTube channel. But in all seriousness though, Jack Black was rocking that costume. I need to own one now, so I can dress up for the movie when I go see it.
