We have to commend Mario Kart Tour for its consistent updates and new content over the years; it really is impressive, regardless of your thoughts on the game as a whole. The game is currently in the midst of the ‘New Year Tour’ to bring in 2023 in style, but it’s not stopping there.
For its next big update, a tease has been posted on Twitter that seemingly confirms the addition of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart Wii – a fan favourite for many, to be sure. It’s not clear at this stage exactly when the next tour is due to commence, but chances are it will likely be within the next week or so.
Check out the tease below:
Of course, the inclusion of the Wii version of Rainbow Road in Mario Kart Tour has got some folks speculating that it might also wind up in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as one of the upcoming DLC tracks. While certainly plausible, we just got the 3DS version of Rainbow Road in Wave 3 of the Booster Course Pass, so we reckon Nintendo will likely put the focus on other tracks for Wave 4. Hey, maybe Wave 5 or 6 though, right? Anything is possible!
What do you make of Rainbow Road’s upcoming inclusion in Mario Kart Tour? Will you be checking it out, or are you hoping it migrates over to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Let us know your thoughts!

Nintendo Life’s resident horror fanatic, when he’s not knee-deep in Resident Evil and Silent Hill lore, Ollie likes to dive into a good horror book while nursing a lovely cup of tea. He also enjoys long walks and listens to everything from Motorhead to BB King.
Legit if they just made a bonus free update for Mario kart 8, all I want is all the rainbow roads, that’s it, even the 8 and deluxe are rainbow, we need the ultimate stages added!

What do you mean by “It’s not clear at this stage exactly when the next tour is due to commence”? They start at the same time every two weeks, next Tour will begin on January 11th at 06:00 UTC time.

I think we can safely say this is the final track of the Spiny Cup in the Booster Course Pass given they ended the Moon Cup with 3DS Rainbow Road.

This all but confirms that Wii Rainbow Road will close out the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, and it’ll be an amazing track to end on.

I feel like they’re deliberately teasing everyone that this will be the final dlc track but I think it’s too obvious, and they’ll instead surprise everyone with a brand new celebration of mario kart track. So here I am setting myself up for disappointment instead 🥲

Imagine if Nintendo could be this consistent with the content updates for Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Strikers Battle League, Mario Golf Super Rush, Mario Tennis Aces, Kirby Star Allies, Super Mario Maker 2…even just MAKING extra content for Mario Party Superstars. But Nintendo has to have their priorities, amirite?
Snark aside, I’m glad this game is continuing to get content updates for the sole reason of maybe meaning we’ll get another wave of Booster Course Pass content. I know I’m a broken record, but I don’t ever want support for this game to end.

Well they have been getting better as the Booster Course Pass continues, hopefully this one will look great by the time it comes out!
…and I’m sure it will be fine in Tour, but I’m not too bothered by that

Yeah, that’ll be the final track in 8 Deluxe for sure. I don’t like the lack of retro Bowser Castles in the DLC. At least one, please! I’d like GCN’s or Wii’s but any would do.

I’m done with MK8D. With it’s sluggish tank-like Drifting and constant Wall slamming. Breaks the experience for me. And it’s a shame because NIntendo hit everything else out of the park.
Oh well, there’s always Super Mario Kart.

@NeonPizza What is “wall slamming”? Is this a euphemism for “bad driver”?

YOOOOOOOO THIS DEFINITELY MEANS THE SECOND BEST RAINBOW ROAD IS COMING TO 8 BABY
The final cup in MK8D should just be 4 rainbow roads
@Aurumonado We’re also missing GBA, GCN and DS Rainbow Roads. So the chance is there.
The bane of my existence!
“Oh yeah. It’s all coming together!”
Im really wanting the Wii remake of N64 Bowser’s Castle on Switch. Theres actually way too many courses already… the chances of actually playing your favourite course is so small now. My fave, Ice Ice Outpost, NEVER seems to be in the course rotation anymore.

What hasn’t been mentioned much is that Nintendo had planned to go mobile to promote its brand and funnel users to its console…. You have to think that this has really helped its cause. That said, as mentioned above, I wish other franchises got this amount of love and support.

One of my all time favorite MK tracks.
