LCG Rumors: Nintendo Direct, Sequel to BOTW & genDesign | Link Cable Gaming

We are just a few days into 2021 and yet, the video game rumor mill has continued to turn. This week, we look at more Nintendo news, specifically regarding a potential Direct and release date for what may be their biggest title on the Switch as well as what may very well be a tease to what genDesign is working on. Will these new year rumors come to pass? Let us find out!

The Yearly Nintendo Direct Document “Leaks” Online

We are all certain that everyone has seen the potential leak surrounding a January Nintendo Direct, but if some of you were the few who haven’t seen it thus far we’ll break it down for you quickly. If you can dream up any first and or third-party titles coming to the Nintendo Switch then you are in luck as everything has been confirmed for 2021. Titles such as Bayonetta 3, Fall Out 3: New Vegas, and the newly named The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of the Past are all planned to be coming to the Switch and showed off in this Nintendo Direct as per the documentation that was leaked online.

Now, there are ways of making a convincing leak, but this isn’t one of them. Without any credible sources, spelling and grammatical errors throughout, as well as making a mistake with a game title (Fallout: New Vegas, not Fallout 3: New Vegas) gives it all away all too easily. While we aren’t sure the person who originally posted this online was trying to hype everyone up or make a joke regarding how these Nintendo Direct Leaks usually play out, we’ll say that this is an automatic fail in both categories even if anything that was listed eventually comes true.

Verdict: No Chance

Another Leak About the Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Oh, look what we have here, another supposed piece of information on the potential release date for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Sorry if we do not sound all too enthusiastic on this topic, but at this point, we are getting the idea that people are just throwing dates or times regarding when Nintendo’s next entry to The Legend of Zelda franchise is going to release in hopes that they are right. This was suggested by the link above that the game will release in 2021 potentially alongside new titles in the Splatoon, Metroid, and Fire Emblem franchise by a Brazilian streamer who has had some insight on previous Nintendo releases.

Again, without anything back this up, we have to say that this a no go and at this point, we are just throwing dates and times as to when Nintendo will reveal this next installment. We get that the anticipation for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is at an all-time high and people want to know when it will come out, but as it stands, until we get something credible or when Nintendo decides to show off their next big Zelda adventure game we are all left twiddling our thumbs until that day comes.

Verdict: No Chance

genDesign Might be Giving out More than Simple Season Greetings

Alright, enough talking about Nintendo for now as all of the rumors coming out seem to be pipedreams and fan ideas, let us turn our attention to genDesign and to what might very well be a new game coming from the Japanese studio. genDesign, best known for their work on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus have created a special 2021 greeting card to ring in the new year, but what is shown on this neat piece of artwork is something entirely new and separate from anything that the development studio has ever shown off before.

Now, this could be a tease to what the company is working on or may very well be a highlight with their recent partnership with Epic and the use of the development team’s asset on the EGS, but we like to think that this is a fun and cheeky way to get people talking about their next project. It really isn’t much to go off of, but it is interesting to see the effort put into this special greeting card and we’re curious to know as to what genDesign may be working on. We will give this one a pass, so long that this title doesn’t take as much time to come out much like The Last Guardian.

Verdict: Who Knows?

With that, we wrap up the first LCG Rumors of the new year, but like in 2020 and before, we want to know what all of you have to say. Are you expecting Nintendo to go ahead and give us a megaton Direct in January? Do you think we will be playing the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 2021? What would you like to see from genDesign and what might be their next installment?
