The day has finally arrived! For those of us patiently waiting for our Sanrio amiibo cards to do something besides give us posters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, today feels like Toy Day all over again.

Nintendo have finally released update 1.9.0 — including a slew of features; most notably, the Sanrio villagers and items.

Check out our guide below to learn how you can Hello Kitty-ify your island and bask in kawaii culture.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Guide to Hello Kitty Cards and Sanrio Items & Villagers

How To Get Sanrio Hello Kitty Amiibo Cards

For those unfortunate few who were unable to acquire Sanrio amiibo cards the first time around with Animal Crossing: New Leaf (either through foreign sources, or *ahem* slightly illegal, fake means…), the reprint of these amiibo cards will be available beginning March 26th 2021.

There are six Sanrio-themed villagers in all:

To invite these villagers to move to your island, you’ll first need to get them to visit your campsite… a few times. This will, of course, necessitate you having built a campsite on your island.

Scan the amiibo cards at the Nook Stop terminal in Resident Services under the “Invite a(miibo) Camper”, and have them visit your island. Immediately after, head over to the campsite and chat with them until they request that you craft them an item.

Just as with inviting other villagers at your campsite to move to your island, you’ll need to successfully execute these tasks three times before being given the option to ask them to “move” to your island.

Unfortunately, you can only invite one camper per day, per island – there’s no using your alternate profiles to get additional scans.

However, you can still acquire the Sanrio furniture and clothing items while you hustle for new neighbors…

To obtain each of the six Sanrio characters’ respective furniture and clothing items, you’ll need to scan their Sanrio amiibo cards at either the Nook Stop kiosk via the “Invite a(miibo) Camper” feature at Resident Services, or on Harvey’s Island.

Once scanned, you’ll have unlocked all of the Sanrio items for purchase in the “Promotion” tab of Nook Shopping.

While you can scan all six amiibo at Harvey’s Island in one go – and thereby gain access to purchasing all of the Sanrio and Hello Kitty-themed furniture at once – you’re still limited to purchasing only 5 catalog items per day, as with any Nook Shopping purchases.

However, there is a trick that can often be used in these types of situations: while you can’t scan in multiple villagers per day to the campsite, you *can* scan in all of the villagers on every Switch profile you may have created on your island (up to 8) – thereby allowing you to purchase up to 40 of the Sanrio amiibo furniture and clothing items per day. But where’s the fun in that?

Additionally, if you happen to be unable to acquire the amiibo cards themselves, but know someone who has, you can work with them to get you the items, too – however, you won’t be able to catalogue them and reorder them later without the amiibo cards yourself, as they’re special promotional items. Therefore, you’ll need your friends to give you your own sets of items. Probably easier to just get the amiibo cards yourself, yeah?
